With the summer holidays approaching, it is often hard to find a seat in the major libraries in Ningbo.
In Ningbo, there are also many small public reading spaces. In recent years, Ningbo has actively promoted the construction of urban reading service spaces to provide higher quality cultural services for the public.
The new Qijiashan Library in Beilun was converted from a grain silo. After its official opening in July last year, it has become the most popular cultural reading space in the region.
The library covers an area of 600 square metres, with 80 reading seats and 22,000 books, covering the humanities, science and history. The library is equipped with a self-service book borrowing system. The library is divided into two floors, the ground floor is mainly for book lending, consultation and daily newspaper reading. The first floor is mainly a reading space, which is used to hold various thematic seminars.
By 2021, a total of 146 star libraries have been built in Ningbo townships (streets), including 39 model libraries of three stars or above, and small reading spaces are constantly emerging.
